Windsor Secondary School Seismic Upgrade
The Windsor Secondary School seismic upgrade project upgrades 2 blocks of the existing 8 block secondary school. The SPDR provided to KMBR was developed as the most cost-effective solution and did not allow for changes to the layout of the blocks.
SD 44’s educational leadership expressed a strong desire for 21st century learning spaces that could be multipurpose, multi-size and support informal/social learning. KMBR reconsidered the placement of the shears walls shown in the SPDR, moving them to the outside of the building, opening up floor areas. This transformed educational environment provides: large agile learning spaces at the end of each floor and flex space between them; identifiable learning communities bound by movable glass walls with views into central collaboration areas and enables large instructional spaces and the central collaboration area to become one large open learning space. The plan includes large and small glazed student meeting rooms, and open teacher collaboration and prep areas.
