Learn constantly
We create learning spaces and are always learning ourselves. Ask questions, read everything, and seek out opportunities to learn from experts. This is a place to grow. We walk the talk of lifelong learning and are humble enough to not think we know it all. Design is a process and we’re always trying to do better.
Use your imagination
Pause and look for ways to make your work remarkable. The path of curiosity and ingenuity is not shortest or the one of least resistance. Our projects incorporate hints of whimsy, magic and playfulness that create environments people want to be in, that inspire fresh perspectives and promote new ideas. Just like children do, explore ideas without inhibition and with imaginative abandon.
Be bold
Embrace challenges. Step boldly into new territory because meaningful projects aren’t always easy ones. Take on difficult projects in order to do what hasn’t been done before. As thought leaders we must not be afraid to challenge. Listen to clients, be empathetic, understand them deeply, but don’t be subservient to them if it doesn’t make the project better.
Lead with empathy
Listen first. Before acting, seek to understand what your clients, colleagues and partners are trying to achieve. Rather than telling clients what they need, step into their shoes. Each person is a key player—both internally and externally. It’s important to recognize their contribution.
Be a team player
Every project is a team effort. We design for collaboration because we believe in collaboration. Practice integrated design by partnering at every step—with the clients, with one another, with other partners.

Sustainability
At KMBR, we incorporate sustainability into our day-to-day operations and the design of all of our architectural and planning projects—but this is nothing new. We’ve always been committed to being leaders in sustainable building design, construction methods, and maintenance. It’s a standard we’ve held ourselves to for decades.
