Kitsilano Secondary School Replacement

The renewal of Kitsilano Secondary ensures the academic ambitions and social legacy of the community will continue. Key features include the construction of a new academic wing; an all-weather playing field; three gymnasiums; a 350-seat theatre; and outdoor learning space. The decision to retain the school’s historic facade ensures that the renewed school will be immediately recognizable. Entry plazas and axial walkways strengthen the school’s existing outdoor recreational and gathering space, creating improved movement and access to a number of essential community learning and cultural programs. Large expanses of glass and abundant natural light create open and inviting central spaces, focused around the Street of Learning and Student Commons. These areas, along with spaces designed for individual and collaborative group work, facilitate educational approaches that are at the heart of modern learning.
