Walnut Park Elementary School

This project involves the replacement of the existing Walnut Park Elementary School, located on a 3.5 ha property at 4092 Mountainview Drive, Smithers, BC. The new school is sized for a capacity of 400 Grade 1 to Grade 7 students plus 40 Kindergarten plus a daycare.

The new school will be constructed on the north end of the site, thus leaving the existing school building undisturbed and operational until the new building is completed. Upon completion, the existing 1967 building will be deconstructed, and a new playfield constructed in its place.

The new school will be designed to LEED Gold standards. The project may or may not be submitted for certification.

Scheduled for occupancy in September 2021, KMBR led the planning and design, which incorporates key ingredients of 21st Century Learning including small learning communities and healthy learning environments.
