North Cowichan rcmp detachment – Grand opening
The new North Cowichan RCMP Detachment marks a significant milestone, bringing a policing facility to the district with a strong emphasis on sustainability and efficiency.
This cutting-edge building integrates seamlessly into the surrounding environment while setting a new standard for municipal facilities. Key sustainable features include an enhanced building envelope with increased insulation, a 100kW solar panel system, and an all-electric heating and cooling system, all contributing to the building’s ambitious Net Zero Energy target.
Incorporating mass timber and local materials, the facility offers a warm and welcoming environment. The central light-well and natural stormwater retention systems, such as infiltration ponds and swales, further enhance the building’s eco-friendly design.
KMBR Architects collaborated closely with the North Cowichan community and RCMP to create a facility that exceeds modern standards for safety and sustainability. Notably, the project was completed under budget by $1.6 million, ensuring significant savings for taxpayers.
