North Cowichan Civic Building

The new North Cowichan Civic Building will be a 3-storey steel office building and a 1-storey detention facility. The building’s enhanced insulation/envelope, sun shades, and PV panels contribute to the project’s ambitious net-zero energy neutral goal. The project has garnered significant community support through its use of wood and sustainable water-wise landscape design. The project’s creative stormwater strategies take advantage of synergies in creating bioswales that serve a practical function, support the project’s sustainability goals, contribute to the RCMP’s site security measures and provide a visual public amenity. By deploying simple but strategic design strategies, KMBR has ensured project goals are achieved in a way that is economical and garners public support.
