Cedar Hill Middle School
School District No. 61 (Greater Victoria) is working with KMBR and our team of consultants to replace Cedar Hill Middle School in Saanich. It marks the first new middle school in SD61 in two decades.
Following a lengthy and in-depth consultation period with students, staff, parents, and community members, the design centres around principles of inclusivity and community. The main entrance opens into a 2 storey student commons that serves as the central hub for the school. It connects to all parts of the school and sits directly adjacent to the library learning commons, an Indigenous welcome space, and spills into a generous student patio designed to foster outdoor learning and connections with nature.
It is designed to be Net Zero Ready, with a photovoltaic system of 100kw and a geothermal field.
The existing school will remain operational during the construction of the new replacement on the adjacent playfield. Construction is expected to begin in Summer 2023 and the school ready for students and staff in Fall 2025.
