Witset Multiplex
The Witset Band and Kyah Wiget Education Society commissioned KMBR to design a complex for the Moricetown Community School, Community Centre and Band Offices. The design combines these elements in a single “Multiplex” Building, which allows the interaction of all members of the community and sharing of spaces such as the hall/gymnasium, meeting rooms, library/resource centre, and service areas. The Multiplex creates a civic focal point in the heart of the community that strengthens identity and achieves economies of scale in constructing a single large building. The complex is organized around a central “Feast Hall” which functions as a Band Council Meeting Room, a multi-purpose gathering and ceremonial space. A glazed end wall provides a view to a large outdoor ceremonial circle, including five totem poles representing each of the five clans in the community.
