South Cariboo Health Centre
South Cariboo Health Centre evolved out of a complex expansion program to an existing acute care hospital and a long term care home resulting in a multi-service facility that integrates a diversity of health agencies and programs. The building is two-storey infill scheme built into the slope of the site, with a link to the Hospital basement. The main floor of the health centre is linked to the main floor of the hospital and the upper floor is linked to the lower level of Mill Site Lodge. These linkages are an essential function in the Community Health Centre concept and were a major challenge, given the substantial slope across the site. The upper floor houses 39 long term care beds and kitchen relocated from the hospital. Away from the public activities on the first floor, privacy is provided for the long term care while the centrally located kitchen serves both the hospital and the long term care dining area avoiding an institutional style of foodservice.
