Mayne Island Fire Hall No. 1

The project involved complete programming and needs analysis, site utilization study, and design services for a new small rural fire hall with two drive-through bays and one back-in bay. KMBR worked closely with MIID staff, the Fire Chief, and the project manager in a collaborative, Integrated Design Process to achieve an economical, functional, and durable fire hall.

KMBR’s services included public consultation with presentations to the public and open house forums in preparation to seek funding approval by referendum. The design includes SCBA; workshop, gear, ladder, and hose storage; hose tower rescue training; administration, and fire-fighters’ lounge and kitchen. The Mayne Island Fire Department is largely volunteer-based, with the exceptions of the Fire Chief and one Deputy, who are full-time career staff. The design does not accommodate sleeping quarters but provides the opportunity for future development.
