Whitehorse Hospital Staff Residence and Medical Facility

KMBR in association with TSL Contractors, was recently awarded the new Whitehorse Hospital Staff Residence and Medical Facility design-build project. Drawing from our team’s significant experience with projects north of 60, our design features a prominent and welcoming façade facing Whitehorse General Hospital. A lively, yet subtle colour palette fosters a sense of pride and comfort for facility users and the community. Simple and durable building materials have been chosen to facilitate ease of construction and not over-burden the facility’s aesthetic appearance. A sloped roof visually contextualizes the new facility within the City of Whitehorse, while addressing issue of snow loading and shedding. The new facility will replace the existing Whitehorse Hospital Mountainside Apartments.

Our team implemented the Holistic Project Delivery™ method resulting in value added components not included in the original program. These include additional tenant office space and vestibules at the office entrances providing for a more energy efficient and comfortable facility. The value added components were achieved by selecting a smaller, more efficient mechanical system, and utilizing void space above the central stair tower. The building is designed to achieve a LEED® Silver rating.
