District of Squamish Fire and Rescue
Squamish, British Columbia

The District of Squamish’s Fire Rescue Department awarded KMBR with a commission for a Space Needs Analysis Study that would result in the requirements for a new post-disaster facility. This study assessed the spatial requirements for each of the Department’s functional operations in accordance with the identified visioning documentation, and included the production of a detailed report for Council, outlining the probable cost of construction based on that analysis, and the cost of construction within the Squamish region. In addition the report included a detailed overview of the stages required for completion.

The completed post-disaster facility will accommodate the fire department’s emergency response, training, prevention, public education, administration services, and fleet and maintenance amenities. In addition, the facility will support other District emergency functions.

The client desires the facility to be designed with a high level of environmental stewardship and meet and or exceed the District’s environment principles/goals including:

  • Exploration of clean, alternative, renewable energy i.e. solar, wind, geothermal.

  • Energy and water efficiency is to be a priority; all newly constructed buildings in the District are to be constructed incorporating sustainable building practices using LEED standards as a precedent, and are to be solar ready.

  • Only Energy Star equipment and appliances shall be specified.
