North Delta Public Safety Building:
Fire Hall & Police Station
Delta, British Columbia
This facility is unique in that it accommodates both fire and police departments under one roof. This allows for the sharing of facilities, thus fostering improved communication between the two public safety departments, and has resulted in economies of scale in building, site, and operating costs.
A further unique aspect is that certain facilities are open for public use, thus embodying (now retired) Fire Chief Randy Wolsey's "Norman Rockwell" picture of community service by the fire and police departments. A glazed two-storey atrium embodies the theme of public accessibility and transparency of government services.
The North Delta Public Safety Building is a key component of the “Nordel Social Heart” plan for urban renewal, which along with a number of other public amenities forms the nucleus of North Delta’s civic centre. |
