Mayne Island Fire Hall No. 1
Mayne Island, British Columbia

KMBR was recently commissioned by the Mayne Island Improvement District to design a new fire hall facility on the existing site intended to replace the existing No. 1 Fire Hall which has become functionally and structurally outdated. The new fire hall is to be built directly behind the existing hall, in the area of an existing tennis court. Upon completion, the old hall will be demolished.

The new fire hall will include a total of five back-in bays for fire apparatus, three at 40ft in length, one 50ft, and one at 30ft. In addition the new fire hall will include all necessary operational and ancillary functions such as SCBA, workshop, gear, ladder, and hose storage, a hose tower which will be used for rescue training, as well as administrative and social areas such as the fire-fighters’ lounge and kitchen.

The Mayne Island Fire Department is largely volunteer based, except for the Fire Chief and one Deputy, who are full time career staff. Although no sleeping quarters will be provided at this time, the design will accommodate the possibility for future development.

KMBR has also been appointed to development a new emergency operations centre as part of the larger emergency/health services complex block.
