G.W. Graham Middle-Secondary School
Chilliwack (SD #33), British Columbia

KMBR, as the Prime Consultant, teamed up with Titan Construction on this Design-Build competition project. This Design-Build was different from others given the total budget of $17.7 million as well as the delivery of a very comprehensive program and specifications. The consultants, working as a team with the contractor, met the challenge to provide the winning design. The Design-Build Team then worked closely with the School District and their shadow team consultants for the duration of the contract. The minimum area required by the program was 9,580m². Our design provided 11,156m² (17% more for the budget) including a 350 seat, stepped floor theatre, a second full court gym, additional student spaces, seminar and prep rooms, and an art gallery created by widening the corridor in front of the art and home economics rooms. Our design also focussed on life cycle costs and sustainability following our Green Building experience. The greatest energy efficient feature is single well ground source heat exchange which also provides very low cost cooling. The Commercial Building Incentive Program (CBIP) indicates this school is as much as 60% lower in on going energy costs than the national standard.
