College of the Rockies: Academic Building
Cranbrook, British Columbia

The Academic Building is located between the existing Main Building and the street where connecting the two buildings was least disruptive and, more importantly, where the new building could most enhance the look of the campus. The compact building houses nursing labs and a 50 seat multi-tiered classroom, in addition to general purpose classrooms, seminar rooms, tutorial rooms and instructors’ offices.

The architectural treatment of the College’s second floor finance department provides a distinct character to this building as one approaches the College. At the heart of the Academic Building is a two-storey atrium with an open stairway, a “lantern” roof, and a prominently displayed replica of a traditional native “sturgeon nose” canoe.
