Brilliant Dam Expansion

KMBR was retained by the Skanska-SNC-Lavalin Consortium to provide architectural design and building envelope services for the shell of a new hydroelectric powerhouse added to the existing Brilliant Dam located on the Kootenay River near Castlegar, BC.

The powerhouse is located within a deep rock excavation into a steep rock face on the riverbank. It sits on top of a turbine well and provides cover for equipment used to service the turbine and generator located below the main floor. The building also houses offices, a meeting room, communications equipment, a control room, a lunchroom, locker rooms and other employee amenities. The office component is cantilevered off the downstream face of the powerhouse above the river.
