Adams Road Elementary School
Surrey (SD#36), British Columbia
A phase 2 feasibility study of this site reconfirmed the conclusion of the Phase 1 Feasibility study, that the preferred option is a two-storey school consisting of a new 250 + 2KG elementary school to be built on the site acquired by the School District to accommodate enrolment growth in the North West Cloverdale area. This option provides optimal site utilization and outdoor play space, and allows for future expansion.
The phase 2 feasibility study also explored the potential use of repeat plans and resulted in a preference to partially reuse KMBR’s design for Lynn Valley Elementary School in North Vancouver. This has facilitated quick progress in the planning and provides a level of certainty about budget compliance that is not possible with a new custom design. The layout for Lynn Valley has been modified to suit the differentiation in capacity (from 275 + 1KG to 250 + 2KG), to incorporate educational requirements unique to this project and School District, and to respond to changes in mechanical/electrical requirements.
The design incorporates numerous sustainable strategies including displaced ventilation, solar hot water heating measurement and verification, best practices commissioning low VOC materials, and is targeting LEED® Gold certification.
