Adams Road Elementary School
Surrey (SD#36), British Columbia
The elementary school was built on a site acquired by the School District to accommodate enrolment growth in the North West Cloverdale area, outdoor play space, and future expansion. KMBR's Phase 2 Feasibility Study explored the potential use of repeat plans and resulted in a preference to partially reuse KMBR's design for Lynn Valley Elementary School in North Vancouver. This resulted in quick progress in the planning and provides a level of certainty about budget compliance that is not possible with a new custom design. Modifications to the design were made to incorporate educational requirements unique to this project and School District, and to respond to changes in mechanical/electrical requirements. The design incorporates numerous sustainable strategies including displaced ventilation, solar hot water heating measurement and verification, best practices commissioning, and low VOC materials.
