Crawford Bay Elementary-Secondary School

The school is designed to accommodate up to 200 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and replaces the existing school, which was built in various stages beginning in 1946. The community contributed funding in order to enhance the program with a number of facilities such as a weight room, multi-purpose activity rooms, and a childcare centre. The design is a response to the local culture, geography, and climate. In recognition of the importance of timber in this community, the building is designed as an all-wood structure, using native, local wood species as much as possible.

Thank you for the remarkable design. We still need to pinch ourselves each day to realize that this gorgeous space is right here in Crawford Bay. The wonderful reading spaces have increased student reading time by at least one third. They love to curl up on the window seats with a book and a pillow. Then there is the light-filled gym, the bright hallways, the benches and tables for sitting to talk, work or eat – just so lovely. Each day that I enter this light-filled space with clean air and lovely breezes, I say “thank you.”
