KMBR Architect Robert G. Billard takes HPD™ on the road
KMBR Associate Robert Billard (MAIBC) has been invited to speak on KMBR’s unique Holistic Project Delivery method (HPD)™ at the Alberta Association of Architects’ annual Banff Session. This year’s conference, entitled SCALE, runs April 16 & 17, with Robert’s seminar on the HPD™ method featured on day one of the event.

The HPD™ method flows from the perceived need to re-think various design process currently in vogue (IDP, IPD) as well as to consider work practices with the advent of Building Information Modeling tools. It is a design workflow process founded in a strict objective-based process led by the project schedule and physical deliverables. It incorporates green initiatives such as LEED® but is not led solely by them. The intent is to approach the project from as many sides with as many minds as possible to ensure as holistic an outcome as possible. HPD™ can be adapted to any project but used in its purest form, it results in a significant departure from the traditional schedule and phased project delivery method. KMBR’s Holistic Project Delivery (HPD)™ method provides a real means for creating consensus, and a structure to keep all parties on track, together. In short, HPD™ is the Integrated Design Process, only better.

Participants at Robert’s seminar will be able to:
1. Understand the Principles of HPD™
2. Understand why and when to use HPD™
3. Learn how HPD™ can be an alternative to Design-Build
4. Learn the role of the HPD™ Coordinator and
5. Review the HPD™ process.

The Banff Session historically draws a full house of nearly 400 architects, designers, academics and students from all parts of Canada and the United States. Robert’s seminar is one of several being facilitated by internationally acclaimed architects from around the world.

KMBR pitches in to create the “most sustainable neighbourhood
in the world”
Millennium Water: The Southeast False Creek Olympic Village is officially the greenest, most energy efficient and sustainable neighbourhood on Earth, after the Canadian Green Building Council announced the LEED Gold certification of all the residential buildings on the site, and the US Green Building Council awarded LEED Platinum ND status to the community as a whole, one of only two neighbourhoods in North America to attain this designation.

KMBR Associate Eric Stacey (MAIBC) lead KMBR’s efforts, in association with GBL Architects Ltd., in the design and contract administration of Millennium Water’s Parcel 9, as well as the contract administration phases for Parcels 2 and 5. Eric was on site for a year and a half handling a wide range of responsibilities, including: conducting field reviews, efficiency reviews and occupancy reviews; responding to Requests for Information; reviewing progress claims; and answering questions from contractors when a design response was required. Eric’s role on the team was integral to the completion of the project, which will likely be one of the most valuable legacies of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
